Engineer’s Week 7th-11th March

Engineer’s Week Workshop

On Friday, March 11th pupils were encouraged to put their problem solving skills to the test in an experiment to measure the strength of jelly sweets. Anyone4science did a fantastic job in captivating the children’s attention and encouraging them to think as “engineer’s”. The pupils discovered that jelly sweets are much stronger than they thought and the experience created lots of conversation in the hours and days that followed!

3rd Class – Environmental Awareness and Care

Biodiversity

As our current Green School Theme is Biodiversity we have been spending a great deal of time studying about environmental awareness and care. We have watched educational videos and songs on the IWB, have held class discussions, taken nature walks, created habitat maps, experimented, brainstormed, planned and made models of our biodiversity projects. Our work has supported our entry into competitions including Super Valu’s ” Save the Bee’s” Campaign and Applegreen’s “BioDive”. We have also had the pleasure of showcasing our knowledge by giving a presentation to first class pupils.

SFI are promoting the government campaign, ‘Creating Our Future’. I would ask 3rd to 6th class  to get involved in the process of generating ideas for Creating Our Future. There are 4 topics included in the resources: schools, homes, farming, health. You can decide amongst yourselves which topic you would like to cover. Schools might suit Karen, tying in with her involvement in the Green Schools Initiative.

Happy Halloween

There was a SPOOKTACULAR build up to the holidays in school. The pupils did not disappoint on dress up day and would it really be Halloween if we didn’t make Worm Jelly?

The Lifetime Lab ‘circuits’ workshop is confirmed for Thursday, 21st October. The workshops will take place via zoom at 9:30am. Workshop kits will be delivered to the school and collected again afterwards. They have requested that you both email the organiser, Joanne,
