Engineer’s Week 7th-11th March

Engineer’s Week Workshop

On Friday, March 11th pupils were encouraged to put their problem solving skills to the test in an experiment to measure the strength of jelly sweets. Anyone4science did a fantastic job in captivating the children’s attention and encouraging them to think as “engineers”. The pupils discovered that jelly sweets are much stronger than they thought and the experience created lots of conversation in the hours and days that followed!

3rd Class – Environmental Awareness and Care

Biodiversity

As our current Green School Theme is Biodiversity we have been spending a great deal of time studying about environmental awareness and care. We have watched educational videos and songs on the IWB, have held class discussions, taken nature walks, created habitat maps, experimented, brainstormed, planned and made models of our biodiversity projects. Our work has supported our entry into competitions including Super Valu’s ” Save the Bee’s” Campaign and Applegreen’s “BioDive”. We have also had the pleasure of showcasing our knowledge by giving a presentation to first class pupils.

As part of Engineers week, 4th class received a visit from “Anyone 4Science” where they learned to make a force metre and test the strength of jelly sweets. They learned about pulling forces, fair testing and reliable testing. Most importantly they learned how strong jelly sweets can be!! 🤣🤣

Seachtain na Gaeilge 🇮🇪

A fantastic week of learning Gaeilge in various ways. From learning the famous Haka, writing stories and finishing it off with a Kahoot quiz on the school iPads. Have a look at our Seesaw to see our rendition of the Haka Gaelach. Prizes all round for excellent participation. Maith sibh! ☘️☘️

Engineering Week 2022

Rang a dó finished off Engineering Week with a visit from Anyone4Science. The children loved exploring whether Rapunzel could use sweets to get down from her tower. Using water to test the force required, we experimented to see when the sweet would break. Great fun was had! A big thanks to Mrs. Cunnane for organising the workshop.

Gymnastics

Gymnastics began on Monday the 21st of February. The children will be completing six gymnastic sessions with two external teachers. 6th class have thoroughly enjoyed their sessions so far.

Houses and Homes 🏡

Our theme for the month of January was Houses and Homes. We learned all about the different types of homes people live in, and learned lots of new language related to homes and houses.

During Aistear time, the senior infants used lots of the new language they had learned while role-playing that they were working in an Estate Agents.

The students built very impressive homes during the construction station.

The senior infants also used a variety of different recycled materials in the Junk Art station to create beautiful homes.

Well done senior infants!
