Great day was had by 4th class at a hurling blitz in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
4th class enjoyed Space Week. Many created their own project and believe me they were creative!!. They learned all about the moon and its 8phases and made their own headband to help identify where moon could be.
On Friday, May 13th, learning took place outdoors as the whole school spent the day at “The Farm, Grenagh”.
This wonderful trip was planned and organised by our fantastic Parents Association. The children were delighted with each and every activity which ranged from ziplining to heritage talks, “Animal Roadshow” to tractor runs and more.
The day would not have been as enjoyable if it were not for the staff, grounds and location of “The Farm”. The staff were extremely helpful and did an amazing job in facilitating our “Fun Day”.
In Third Class our day began with a stroll to the Zip Line and Play Course. Here the children enjoyed playing on the climbing frame, go karting and ziplining.
Our next stop was the machinery yard where Frankie told us about farming practices, machinery used in the past and the evolution of tractors.
Next up it was time to visit the “Animal Roadshow” tent. Here the children got to see and learn about snakes, rabbits, owls, iguanas and more!
We took to a meadow for our next activity. We met Niamh who told us all about the interesting places she has worked and her study of creatures. Before we started our own fieldwork investigations we paused for a few moments to listen to the sounds of nature. The children took great delight in finding bugs and carefully examining their habitat. The children really enjoyed this lesson as it links to our Green School Biodiversity theme.
After a quick bite to eat we were back to it, travelling in style to our next location.
We vacated the trailer at the site of a ringfort where our study of archaeology began. It was fascinating to hear about life in the past and connect this learning to real artefacts. Of course we couldn’t leave without holding and trying on a few bits!
Although not included in our timetable we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a quick picture in front of a distinctive yellow Volkswagen Beetle Bumblebee!
A stint in the play zone and on the playground brought us up to our second break. Smiles all round!
After lunch we took the opportunity to play on the grass and greet some animals in the fields and pens nearby.
We concluded our day by spending time in the Fairy Garden, exploring a cottage and taking a walk around the farm.
Class of 2022 received their fabulous graduation hoodies on Friday the 6th of May. We would like to thank the parents of Rathduff N.S for organising this lovely gift. It was a very special and memorable day for 6th class!
After a long wait Rang a dó made their Confession on the 5th of May 2022. We look forward to receiving Jesus in a special way on the 28th of May for our First Holy Communion.
Well done to Katie Clifford in 6th class who represented our school in the Primary School Game on the 7th of May in Páirc Uí Rinn. Katie played at half time in the Cork vs Kerry game. Fantastic achievement Katie!
Every Tuesday morning we use the iPads to revise our times tables. We love playing games like Daily 10 and Hit the button and trying to beat our previous score.
On March 21st the Senior Infant classes took part in a very engaging STEM workshop, ‘Bricks4Kidz. The children followed step-by-step instructions to build a battery-powered rocket. The children had so much fun while also developing STEM skills such as planning, predicting, observing, recording, questioning and communicating. They were very excited to countdown to blastoff and see their rockets blasting through space!
After building the rockets, the children created lego pictures using single-studded bricks. Some followed instructions while others got creative on their own!
