Sport

In Rathduff N.S sport and physical activity play a very important role in our school.

As well as taking part in the Sciath na Scol each year for both football and hurling/camogie the children are also exposed to a wide variety of other sporting and physical activities such as Athletics, Swimming, Folk Dancing and Gymnastics throughout the school year. As part of our Active Flag we also have busy breaks in class, an annual sports day and an active week.

Gymnastics:

During term 2 of each year we focus on the P.E strand of gymnastics. Each class gets the opportunity to participate in a course of gymnastics classes. The course runs for six weeks every Monday in the school hall. It is a great opportunity for the children to learn a new skill and have great fun!

Athletics:

Each year the school takes part in the Cork City Sports under the guidance of Ms. O’Sullivan who trains the pupils who qualify. The Primary School Sports will be held on Thursday,1st June 2023 in MTU.

Folk Dancing:

In term 3 each year the children get to participate in Folk Dancing classes. It is a very enjoyable experience for all the kids. The course of Folk Dancing runs for six weeks every Tuesday in the school hall with Larry and Ita Southard.

Swimming:

Every year 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes take part in a course of swimming lessons at Churchfield Leisure Centre. This is a great opportunity for the children to learn a life skill and gain confidence in the water.

Swimming lessons are for a 6 week period. 3rd and 4th class go every Friday starting in September to the Midterm Break in October.

5th and 6th class go every Friday starting in November for a 6 week period.
