In Rathduff N.S we are constantly striving to improve children’s literacy levels. We have a number of initiatives in place in our school.
Literacy Lift Off:
This programme is in its second year in operation and it has been a great success to date in Senior Infants and 1st class. It is a 6 week programme which facilitates reading tailored to a pupil’s instructional level. Literacy Liftoff activities include reading, phonics, phonological awareness and writing.
Here are some pictures of the children and teachers working at the different stations:
CAPER:
Child and Parent enjoy reading is an initiative which is administered from Junior infants to 3rd class. We have a variety of books for each class level that the children can enjoy reading with their parents/guardians.
D.E.A.R Time:
Each class enjoys 10 minutes of silent reading a book of their own choice each day.
